My name is Whitney. It's great to meet you.
Sorry, if for some reason you were expecting me not to use the word hussy in first piece of curated prose I put on the internet in half a decade. Those of you that know me well know I've had a long history of spilling my guts on the internet - from a college Xanga account I used to make my boyfriend (now husband, it worked!) jealous, to a strangely popular food blog I ran in the early years of our marriage that focused on creating recipes that used a really disgusting amount of butter - most of our life is heavily documented on the internet. And I wouldn't have it any other way. For me, connection makes this very big world (and even bigger internet) feel a little less isolating.
If you thought I overshared before, I am sorry to tell you that all of my blogging happened before children. And having children opens up an entire new window into the world of oversharing. There are no boundaries between women that have had children. It's this really cool club where no one cares if you wear a bra and they literally clap their hands for you if you tell them you slept 8 glorious consecutive hours. Which by the way, none of them have, but when you talk about ALMOST doing that, they get really jacked.
If you're wondering what might come from this corner of the internet, you can expect the truth. The honest to god, most likely turd covered truth. I can promise you it won't always be funny, but it will always be true. In this current phase of my life, I am navigating what it means to be a mother that values her career but values her family just a hair more. I'm learning that the word balance is not an actual thing, it's just that the scales of your life seem to tip from one side to the other and at any given point, the highest priority weighing you down. I'm finding the courage to let old relationships that don't serve me go. I'm learning the most important person in my life is ME (shit, that's a really hard one.) And in my countless conversations with other women - I'm finding a lot of other people in the very same place.
So we are going to talk about all of that - the good, the bad, and the straight up nasty. Because where else are you going to put this shit but the internet?
